Start with a no-purchase check

Clean the lens, place the camera closer to eye level and try facing a window instead of sitting with it behind you. Make a short recording in your normal app before and after. Judge framing and visibility, not just the preview window’s size.

If that solves the problem, stop shopping. If it does not, name the remaining limitation: a missing camera, an inconvenient mount, a subject that moves close to the lens, or a picture that is still unusable. That description makes the comparison more useful than choosing the highest pixel count.

What the two Logitech examples establish

Logitech lists 1080p at 30 fps and a physical privacy shutter for both Brio 100 and Brio 500. Brio 100 uses USB-A and fixed focus; Brio 500 uses USB-C and autofocus. These published differences are enough to narrow compatibility, but not enough to declare an image-quality winner.

Our fit assessment: investigate Brio 100 for a conventional seated-call setup with a free USB-A port. Investigate Brio 500 if USB-C or changing subject distance is important. Autofocus is a reason to investigate, not proof that close-up objects will look good. Check real footage and focus limits for your intended use.

Budget for the complete connection

Confirm where the camera will sit, which port it will use and whether its cable reaches. A USB-C-only laptop may need an adapter for a USB-A camera. Include that part in the comparison instead of discovering it after delivery.

On a thin laptop lid, think about whether the mount obstructs the screen or feels secure. With a separate monitor, check the viewing angle at your actual seated height. We have not tested mount stability for these cameras, so these are checks for the return window.

Your app is part of the system

Logitech notes that calling software can limit delivered resolution or require an HD setting. Buying a higher-resolution camera does not establish what the other person sees. Check the relevant settings and make a test call on the account and connection you actually use.

Judge the full result: your face should be visible, focus should suit the task, and the framing should not distract. A lens cover blocks the camera’s view; it does not necessarily mute the microphone. Check the microphone and camera controls separately.

Buy against a named limitation
